It went there....and now its back again

Well, they're back!

We're celebrating Hobbit Day 2026 in style, by bringing back some of the finest fan made writing that Middle-earth has ever seen, as today we launch bestofmiddleearthnews.com.

Each day from Monday to Friday we'll be posting a jewel of an article that we've mined from the old Middle-earth News website, to make them freely and easily available to the fans again - and we've dropped a whole week's worth for you to enjoy as a birthday present today!

The original Middle-earth News team was an amazing collection of dedicated fans who laboured long and hard to bring some truly unique pieces and perspectives to the fans and we're fortunate to have the blessings for this project of some of that original team of writers, along with past directors and assistant directors, to bring their hard work back again.

We're feeling kinda emotional about bringing these posts back again, not least because we recognise that there isn't an infinite resource to draw on, eventually we'll run out of posts to repost and there won't be anything else to draw on from the original site. Yet, we will not deceive you....for another site has been made!

As well as launching bestofmiddleearthnews.com today we're also launching middleearth.news! We are Janus-like, one face looking backwards and another looking forwards. We intend not just to tend to the baton that was dropped when the original Middle-earth News went into the west, but to carry it forward too.

There's new news to write about, there's always something good turning up in Middle-earth and we want to talk about that too, particularly focusing on the fans and their heartfelt experiences and expressions of Middle-earth joy. There's some good in this world, and its worth writing about!

We hope you're going to have a wonderful Hobbit Day and that you're enjoying our own unexpected party of two website launches in one.

May the hair on your toes never fall out!
